What is media?

Web 2.0 is used to describe the way which the world wide web is developing, it is like a second generation of web-based communities for example Social networking websites, weblogs, wikis, and podcasts.

Mediation is the process which a media text represents an idea, issue or event to us. It suggests the way things change by being acted upon by the media.

Proliferation is the rise, increase or growth of something.

Saturation is the constant bombardment of media everywhere we go, such as Magazines, Tv, Internet etc.

The media is various forms of communication such as Music, TV, Movies and one of the most popular the Internet. The media is also entertainment and news for the public.

Media products are 'shared' this means that parts of media have become part of our common culture such as phrase 'You're fired' even though we dont necessarily watch the program.

The media in countries such as Burma, China and Ethiopia are so strictly regulated because of the large amount of power that the media has, because of this large amount of power the governments want to restrict it, so people can't criticise or share ideas.

Media convergence is where different platforms of media are coming together such as Video it used to be available on tape but it now can used through the Internet or over a mobile network.

The Media is important in todays society because it tells us what is going on and it is a central part of our lives. Also domestic media hardware has become an essential part of our lives and we would find it very hard to live without.
