Hand Drawn Plans of Front Cover, Contents and Double Page Spread

To start the project of I started by hand drawing the plans of how I wanted my 3 pages to look and this is what I came up with:

Storyboard of Photos

After completing my risk assessment I wanted to get a rough idea of what photos I needed to take on my photo shoot so I drew up the plans of what photos I wanted.

Shot 1: I am going to take a picture of my model on a hill with the model in focus and the background in blur, I will take the picture as the sun is going down so I can get the effect i want.
Shot 2: In shot 2, I am going to get my model to stand against a white wall, and dress them up in hip-hop clothes (new era hat, jeans, new era top etc.) and then get him to hold a necklace up to his face and look through the hole in it.
Shot 3: For shot 3 im going to get my model against a white wall again and use a closeup shot and take a picture of my models face with his hand over his mouth and a new era at on to show the hip-hop look.
Shot 4: For shot 4 I'm going to use a similar shot as 3 im going to have a close up but this time i'm going to have my model against a grungy looking wall with a new era cap on again, but this time with a serious face and looking straight at the camera.
Shot 5:

Risk Assessment for Photo shoot

For my photo shoot I did a Risk assessment to make sure everything was fine and safe before I went to take the pictures.

Customer Profile for Magazine

For my magazine I created an editorial profile which reflects everything that I have covered in my magazine.
My genre of music I am looking at is hip hop, the target audience for my genre is both male and female of the ages around 12-25. The main age group for my magazine is around 16-20 as these will be the ones going out to buy magazines and going to giggs and being more involved with hip hop. I will keep this in mind when I create my front cover and use a colour pallet that appeals to both male and female.

Jason os 18, male and works in a record store, he enjoys listening to all types of music with a fast beat, and especially enjoys rap music.

Questionnaire Results

After I collected all the results from my music magazine, I put them in a spreadsheet and went on to put them into charts/graphs to easily show the information I got from carrying out the questionnaire. Using this it is very easy to see what option is the most popular. My results may have been slightly biased to the age group, but that is my target audience and I will try to get some more results to make it more of a mixed audience.

From doing my questionnaire I have found that most people will want to pay around £1-£4. The main thing that will encourage the reader to buy the magazine is the free gift so I will use a free gift to persuade them to buy the magazine. I have also decided that I will have my Selling line/slogan as 'Feel the Vibe'. On my front cover I will be using a Large image instead of using a smaller one and a background as readers said they would prefer that.

*In the results 'Music Mag' is meant to read 'What music magazines do you currently read?'

Questionnaire

Before starting my music magazine, first I used a questionnaire to get more information about my genre of music and my target audience so I could make my magazine better and more relevant for the audience. I handed my questionnaire out to a variety of people covering my target audience so I could get good and relevant results.

Advantages and Disadvantages of a Questionnaire
A questionnaire was a very good way of getting valid and up to date information about my genre of music and it will help shape my magazine based on my targets audience feedback instead of only using my own thoughts on the genre. The questionnaire was very easy to make and once it was done it was just down to the respondents to do the rest of the work. Using this information in excel it was very easy to make unbiased charts and graphs.

There are some disadvantages with using a questionnaire, because you can't ask every question that you want to find out, you are limited to certain amounts and the answers have to be closed questions. The results you get may not also be 100% accurate because the person filling it in may have been rushed or doing it with their friends so they may have been influenced to choose another option. I was also limited to what group I could ask and it was not as wide group of people as I would have liked it to been.

Overall I think it was worth making a Questionnaire because I now have a better idea of what I want my music magazine to look like and include.

Montage of Images to help with my magazine

To help me create my magazine I looked at the internet for pictures and other sorts of images that will help influence my magazine, I looked at some strong images which gave me an idea of what types of shots I wanted to take. Front Covers that were already out there to give me some rough ideas and conventions that other music magazines use.

MoodBoard - Brain Storm of Ideas

One of the first tasks I did in creating my music magazine was a mood board where I got all the things I liked, front covers, contents, double page spreads, pictures, colours and put them all into a big presentation (brain storm).

School Magazine Evaluation

The front cover of our magazine is very eye catching, it has lots of bright colours on it, different shades of bright blue. There is a flame on the very front of the cover which makes it look very exciting, and attracts the eye, we also enhanced the colours of the flame to make it brighter. The flame is also very important because instantly assume its about science before reading the title. The title is on a white background which makes it jump out at the reader, and it drags you attention to that straight away. The title is multi coloured which makes it look more interesting than plain text. The text to the left that has feature articles we put a shadow effect on it to make it stand out from the background and also used alternative colours so it didn't blend together.
We want the audience of our magazine to get involved. We have on the top of the magazine to the left a competition saying ' Win £500 in todays issue', this makes the reader want to find out more, because most people would like to win £500. We want the reader to buy our magazine by the use of text.

School Magazine Pictures

Preliminary Task

Preliminary exercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of DTP.

What is media?

Web 2.0 is used to describe the way which the world wide web is developing, it is like a second generation of web-based communities for example Social networking websites, weblogs, wikis, and podcasts.

Mediation is the process which a media text represents an idea, issue or event to us. It suggests the way things change by being acted upon by the media.

Proliferation is the rise, increase or growth of something.

Saturation is the constant bombardment of media everywhere we go, such as Magazines, Tv, Internet etc.

The media is various forms of communication such as Music, TV, Movies and one of the most popular the Internet. The media is also entertainment and news for the public.

Media products are 'shared' this means that parts of media have become part of our common culture such as phrase 'You're fired' even though we dont necessarily watch the program.

The media in countries such as Burma, China and Ethiopia are so strictly regulated because of the large amount of power that the media has, because of this large amount of power the governments want to restrict it, so people can't criticise or share ideas.

Media convergence is where different platforms of media are coming together such as Video it used to be available on tape but it now can used through the Internet or over a mobile network.

The Media is important in todays society because it tells us what is going on and it is a central part of our lives. Also domestic media hardware has become an essential part of our lives and we would find it very hard to live without.
